Oakland County Improvements

Have Oakland County enforce strict laws holding every residence

accountable for the beautification of their property. The piggish properties that are in Oakland County affect everyone’s property valve. This has been going on, way before the housing market crashed. (Don’t use the market crash as an excuse).Start a campaign to bring awareness that sloppy properties ,they are and will bring down everyone’s’ property valve .

  2. "Oakland County enforce strict laws holding every residence accountable for the beautification of their property."

Problem 1 - there aren't such "strict laws" in many local communities - let alone at the County level.

Problem 2 - my home is my castle, and while I prefer everyone to maintain their homes to the same professional degree that I do, I also very strongly bristle at the suggestion of yet another layer of regulation.

Suggested solution: next time you are shopping for a home, consider one in a planned community with an active/aggressive home owner's assocation - or a community of like minded individuals...

  3. While I generally agree with the comments of Community Member, I have to ask what is a "piggish property"? I like native plants and a more natural landscape. Many of my neighbors prefer manicured lawns and pay companies to spray their grass with chemicals that require warning labels be posted. Which one of us is "piggish" One of my neighbors races cars and has an enclosed trailer to haul them. I can see the trailer from from my house, it may not technically meet local zoning rules, should I turn him in? The problem is that we all have to live together and may disagree on what is correct and acceptable. This is not a County concern as it depends on the context of where you live and what is normal. That is a very local thing that even locally has a lot of disagreement. I have to agree with Community Member that perhaps an aggresive home owner's association may be the best choice if you can find one that meets your ideals. Government must protect the rights of all, not the ideals of a few.

  4. Each township & city has ordinances covering this problem, and each has its budget woes.

It costs $ to enforce these ordinances.

Are you willing to pay more property tax for this end?

  5. The "strictness" of the laws can be modified at the local level. There are code inspectors already in place.

Establishing a Count-level code enforcement program would still need to be co-ordinated with the local authority, and would in many cases duplicate services.
