Near most elevators there is a sign instructing people to use the staircase in the event of a fire. It would speed evacuation if a sign were added to tell the public where the nearest staircase is. Can this be done in county buildings?

I have talked to the Oakland County sign specialist in Facilities Planning and Engineering about the elevator signs. The County buildings with elevators that we visited did have a sign that stated "In case of emergency use stairs". We agree that if there are no stairs in the immediate area of the elevator, a stairwell location sign would be a good idea. However, every elevator we visited had the stairs either next to or very close by in an obvious location. We do not feel that additional signage is necessary at this time.
