  You could save some money in these budget cutting times by purging or filtering your mailing lists. I moved to Colorado earlier this year but I received a letter today from the CHI division offering a low interest loan program. I don't live in Michigan anymore. You could check the mailing lists and not send them to anyone who doesn't live in Michigan or I am sure they could also filter out non-Oakland County cities. The savings may not be alot, but it does add up over time.

  Oakland County Health Department and the police need to work together to impliment this great law. I work in an office where a tenant (just happens to be a lawyer) smokes cigars EVERYDAY!! I have filed complaints, spoke to the Health Department, nothing is getting done and he gets away with it. It comes up through the vents and affects my asthma-causing a health hazard in the workplace. Not to mention, It STINKS! We have other tenants that have complained as well, and nothing has been done and it continues. Please HELP!

  There are too few bike paths/shared raodways and sharing the streets can be difficult for motorists/cyclists. There are many roads with high speeds and little/no area for bikes and cars to share the road. Providing designated bike lanes makes road traffic safer for both bikers and drivers. It would increase safety and promote biking as a safe, healthy, alternative form of transportation.

  Designated bike lanes keep cyclists on the right side of the road and going the correct direction with traffic. They also help prevent motorists from taking wide lefts into oncoming traffic as they pass cyclists or crowding to the right and forcing cyclists off the road.

  Greater support for walking and bicycles could reduce traffic, parking requirements, and serious accidents. It can also improve health and promote ...more »

  Greater support for walking and bicycles could reduce traffic, parking requirements, and serious accidents. It can also improve health and promote local buying. This all helps businesses, should be encouraged by local health providers and makes municipalities in the area more attractive, not to mention saving money on roads. Why not promote this as a collaborative effort and provide tax or zoning benefits to those who take advantage of it? If you are simply driving through and want to get somewhere else as fast as possible, consider stopping or living here.

  Nobody but a politician likes more taxes, however...

  I recently had the misfortune of being involved in a nearly head-on collision in Rose Township.

  Sadly, the Citizens of Rose Township, and several others in the area choose to not adequately fund public safety and have through that omission elected to have the Michigan State Police 'patrol' their townships.

  It took 45 minutes for the Trooper to arrive on scene - long after many witnesses to the accident had already left, and in fact EMS delayed transporting the other driver for a non-life threatening leg injury in order to wait for the Trooper.

  It's my understanding that OCSD has more patrol deputies than the entire MSP? Why should the citizens of this County expect anything less than top notch Sheriff services anywhere within the County?

  I for one am soured on the experience and no longer intend to travel through, visit, or frequent businesses in the North Western Areas of the Couny

  Through the use of smartphones, the future of communication is finally here in Mobile Tagging. After a hiatus from Western culture (due to the global recession), mobile tagging is starting to show itself in different forms (Microsoft Tag, QR Code, JagTag, AT&T, etc.) through different mediums and places (magazines, tourist locations, inventory tracking, food, etc.). Tags are two-dimensional barcodes that can be scanned in the physical world in order to provide more information on a subject that has piqued your curiosity. That is to say, it is a link between our analogous and digital worlds. I believe that this new technology has enormous potential and will be quite disruptive (in a good way) in the mobile community. What do you guys think?

  Hi - I went in for jury duty (it was fine, folks were nice) anywas I got to thinking about the $12.50 check (plus milage) I received. It has to cost you to process and mail them - perhaps you could give prospective jurors the opportunity to donate their $12.50 check to a worthy Oakland cause (like Animal Control, Common Ground, Haven, etc) and then you could write one check a month to those organizations - save postage and processing - and help support great Oakland county organizations.

We should be promoting the IT investment in place and marketing web development, service, and maintenance to CVT's and small OC businesses. Can we offer public service announcements, Facebook ads, or even develop a app to work with Google TV or mobile devices that assists users with online services in their area.

  Many of the smaller, and larger, communities in the County may lose State revenue sharing due to the latest proposals from Lansing. Declining population as determined by the latest census may cause additional losses in revenue sharing on top of the reduced revenues due to declining property values. While this may all turn around some day, there will be serious problems in the near future that may cause hasty instead of planned actions. How do we maintain the character we cherish while adjusting to rapidly changing revenue and political issues?

  I am currently one week into the White Lake Citizens Academy and already have a greater appreciation for the township and am eagerly awaiting the remaining classes.

  One of the biggest challenges facing budgets are legacy costs (retirement and healthcare for retirees). Oakland County has done a great job moving employees from defined benefits to defined contribution. Why not do another healthcare buy out of deferred retirees. In other words, buy out those who are eligible for retirement healthcare but have left county service and are not at retirement age. Oakland hasn't done this in four years so maybe it's time to do it again. As a former empoyee, I'd be interested.

  People that are unemployed for a period of time and still collecting benefits should volunteer (preferably in their area of expertise) for one or two days a week, to schools, new businesses etc. They could also help in clean up of blight. I would also used non-violent offenders.
